Applications have opened for Kyoto University of Advanced Science's new Graduate School of Engineering!
Jr. Associate Professor Sajid Nisar’s research proposal has been selected for a collaborative international research program under the Interstellar Initiative 2019–20, jointly organized by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development and the New York Academy of Sciences (USA).
A team headed by Jr. Associate Professor Sajid Nisar, now a faculty member at the Kyoto University of Advanced Science, took part in the Student Innovation Challenge (Mobility) at the 2019 IEEE International World Haptics Conference from 9–12 July, 2019, in Tokyo, Japan. The ‘driving assistant’ developed by Prof. Nisar’s team was selected for the ‘Best Student Innovation Challenge Award’.
Shigeru Horii, a Professor at the Nagamori Institute of Actuators specializing in materials science, has received the Best Presentation Award from the Cryogenics and Superconductivity Society of Japan (CSSJ).
In 2020, the Kyoto University of Advanced Science will launch its all-new, English-language taught Engineering Department out of its Uzumasa Campus in Western Kyoto. Featuring a unique educational style that includes gaining real-world experience at top Kyoto companies, we hope to equip our students with the skills to be able to immediately contribute to the world of engineering upon graduation.
As part of our ongoing collaboration with Harvard University, periodic lectures are being held at KUAS’ campuses as we are pleased to welcome faculty from one of the most respected academic institutions in the world to Kyoto. Recently, we were happy to host Karen Thornier, a distinguished scholar in the field of comparative linguistics and the chair of the Harvard University Asia Center.
I have been involved in a multitude of projects, and have been able to gain understanding of my field through the prisms of both academia and business. I know now that innovation is sparked simply by ‘giving it a shot’. At KUAS and through our engineering department, I want to create a new paradigm for manufacturing to change our global society, together with the faculty and students.
Japanese universities are known for bringing Japanese soul food to their students for a reasonable price, and the Kyoto University of Advanced Science is no different.
